Chiropractic

Chiropractic doctors are experts in muscle, joint and nervous system injuries and conditions. Chiropractic is a ‘hands-on’ approach to health-care and utilizes safe, well-researched therapies including: spinal manipulation, soft-tissue therapy (ART and FR®), laser therapy, and rehabilitation. Doctors of Chiropractic also educate their patients on various aspects of overall health and wellness including: diet, exercise, ergonomics and stress management.

Active Release Technique (ART)

ART is a ”hands-on” soft-tissue technique utilized by ART-certified health care practitioners to assess and treat various soft-tissue injuries. Overuse conditions or trauma often result in the formation of tough, dense scar tissue, which leads to decreased strength, mobility and subsequent pain. The ART provider will use his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, facia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues (including nerve entrapments) are then treated by combing precisely directed pressure with very specific movement patterns. There are over 500 specific treatment protocols unique to ART that allow providers to identify and correct specific problems that are affecting the individual patient. ART is useful in treating acute conditions ie: muscle strains, sprains, whiplash, cumulative trauma injuries etc.Treatments take about 15-20 minutes and most chronic conditions require about 6-12 sessions.

Massage

What is Massage Therapy?

Registered massage therapy is the practice of soft tissue manipulation, joint health and overall musculoskeletal function and alignment to promote heath, wellness and optimal functioning. It is also very effective as preventative medicine and as a complement to traditional Western medicine.

One of the great things about massage therapy is that, in addition to being very effective, it usually feels really good! The applications of massage therapy are vast and on-going. Most issues can be helped partially or completely through a massage therapy intervention.

Naturopathy

Naturopathic medicine is a primary care system that is based on the principle of finding and treating the nature of disease. Naturopathic physicians work toward the individual treatment of a person as a whole, incorporating physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health to diagnose and develop individualized treatment plans. Using conventional diagnostic procedures (physical examination, lab work, and urinalysis) as well as a variety of treatment modalities, a Naturopathic physician is able to determine the root cause of a person’s illness and develop a treatment plan according to the individual needs of each patient.

Laser Therapy North Vancouver: Class IV Laser Therapy

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy (Class IV) accelerates your body’s own natural healing process through photo-bio-stimulation. Laser therapy is effective in treating acute or chronic conditions and post surgical pain.

Deep Tissue Laser Therapy has been successfully used to treat a broad range of medical conditions, including musculoskeletal problems, arthritis, sports injuries, post-surgical wounds, diabetic ulcers and dermatological conditions.

Unlike many pharmacological treatments that mask pain or only address the symptoms of disease, Deep Tissue Laser Therapy treats the underlying condition to promote healing. This means that the treatments are effective and the benefits of Deep Tissue Laser Therapy are long lasting.

Athletic & Functional Taping

Elastic tape (Kinesio tape, Spider Tech, Rock tape etc.) is designed to provide support and stability to your joints and muscles. It can also be used to increase lymphatic and vascular flow, reduce muscle and joint pain and prevent injury. Elastic or athletic tape may be used as an adjunct to therapy depending on the individual and the complaint.

Electrical Muscle Stimulation

The electrical stimulation unit utilized at Mountain Health and Performance, helps to normalize tissue following exercise or injury. It creates strong but non-fatiguing muscle contractions which leads to an increase in blood flow and the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the surrounding tissues. After activity or injury electrical stimulation will help to remove waste and deoxygenated blood away from the area which may help to decrease recovery time and pain.

Orthotics

Custom foot orthotics are sometimes necessary to provide correction for many foot, ankle, knee, hip and back conditions ie: plantar fasciitis, IT Band Syndrome, Hip and Low back pain. Our Chiropractors will do a thorough examination, including gait analysis, to determine if you require an orthotic prescription. Many insurance plans cover prescription orthotics, check with your provider to determine your coverage.
