Neck Pain

What causes neck pain?

Neck pain can have various causes, and it may result from a combination of factors. However, the majority of neck pain cases are a consequence of the demands placed on the neck exceeding the capacity of the injured tissues.
Injury can occur in one, or any combination of the tissues mentioned below:

  • Muscles and tendons

  • Ligaments

  • Joint capsules

  • Vertebral discs

  • Nerves

Injury can occur quickly, such as whiplash-like injuries following an abrupt fall or collision, or they may be more gradual in nature due to repetitive tasks and postural demands.

How do I know what is causing my neck pain?

Diagnosing the cause of neck pain typically involves a comprehensive medical history and physical evaluation by your healthcare professional. In some cases a neurological exam may be performed and imaging studies recommended.

Once a diagnosis is established, your healthcare provider can formulate an appropriate treatment plan. Treatment options may include chiropractic care, laser therapy, massage therapy, lifestyle modifications, ergonomic advice, etc. It's important for individuals experiencing neck pain to communicate openly with their healthcare provider, providing detailed information about their symptoms and any contributing factors.
